FaceGuard

Last updated: February 24, 2026

eight arms ("we", "us", or "our") operates the FaceGuard mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the App.

1. Overview

FaceGuard is a photo masking app that detects faces in photos and applies masks (mosaic, blur, emoji, or shapes) to protect privacy. The App is designed with privacy as a core principle — all photo processing is performed entirely on your device.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Photos and images: All photos you select are processed entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework and Core ML. Your photos are never uploaded to any server.
  • Personal information: We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information.
  • Usage analytics: We do not use any analytics services to track how you use the App.

3. Face Data

3.1 What Face Data We Process

The App uses Apple's Vision framework (VNDetectFaceRectanglesRequest) to detect face bounding box coordinates (rectangular regions) in user-selected photos. It also uses a bundled Core ML model to estimate age from the detected face regions to classify faces as children or adults. No facial recognition or biometric identification is performed.

3.2 How Face Data Is Used

Face bounding box coordinates are used solely to apply visual masks (mosaic, blur, emoji, or shape overlays) to the detected face regions. Age classification is used only to automatically determine which faces belong to children so they can be masked by default.

3.3 Data Sharing

Face data is never shared with any third party. All face detection and age classification processing occurs entirely on your device. No face data is transmitted over the network.

3.4 Data Storage and Retention

Face data (bounding box coordinates and age classification results) is held only in the app's runtime memory during the active editing session. It is never written to disk and never stored persistently. When you close the editor or switch to another photo, the face data is released from memory. No face data persists after the app is terminated. Exported images are permanently flattened — the mask is burned into the pixels, making it impossible to recover the original face data from saved images.

4. Third-Party Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version of the App displays banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Google AdMob may collect the following information for the purpose of serving personalized or non-personalized ads:

  • Device identifiers (e.g., Advertising ID, if you have granted permission via App Tracking Transparency)
  • IP address (which may be used to estimate approximate location)
  • Device information (device model, operating system version)
  • Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
  • Crash logs and diagnostic data

This data collection is handled by Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. If you upgrade to the Pro version, all advertisements are removed and Google AdMob is no longer active.

5. In-App Purchases

The App offers a one-time Pro upgrade through Apple's App Store. All purchase transactions are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store any payment information.

6. Device Permissions

The App requests the following device permissions:

  • Photo Library (read): To select photos for face masking.
  • Photo Library (write): To save masked photos to your camera roll.
  • Camera: To take photos for face masking (only when you choose to use the camera).

These permissions are used solely for the stated purposes and can be revoked at any time through your device's Settings.

7. Data Security

Since all photo processing occurs on your device and no personal data is transmitted to our servers, there is no risk of data breach from our side. Exported photos are permanently flattened — original face data cannot be recovered from saved images.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is designed to protect children's privacy in photos. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children or any other users. All processing happens on-device.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
