eight arms ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Cupped mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the App.

1. Overview

Cupped is a private voice-journal app for keeping a diary by speaking. Recording, transcription, and the shaping of your words into diary entries are all completed entirely on your device.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Voice recordings, transcripts, and diary entries: These are processed and stored on your device. The App never sends them to any external server.
  • Personal information: We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifying information.
  • Usage analytics: We do not use an analytics SDK or collect data about how you use the App.

3. Device Permissions

The App may request the following device permissions:

  • Microphone: Used to record voice entries.
  • Speech Recognition: Used to transcribe your recordings on-device.
  • Photo Library (write): Used only to save share-card images that you choose to create.
  • Face ID: Used to verify your identity when the optional app lock is enabled. Authentication is handled by iOS. The App receives only the authentication result and never accesses your biometric data itself.

These permissions are used only for the purposes stated above. You can review or revoke them at any time in your device's Settings.

4. Where Your Data Is Stored

All App data is stored only on your device. If iCloud Backup is enabled for your device, the data may be included in a backup stored in your own Apple iCloud account. That backup is handled by Apple and does not pass through any server operated by us.

5. Advertising

The App does not display advertisements.

6. In-App Purchases

We may offer a one-time paid upgrade through Apple's App Store in the future. Any purchase transaction will be processed by Apple and subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store your payment information.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for use by parents and guardians, not by children themselves. Any details about a child are entered voluntarily by a parent or guardian as part of a diary entry, stored only on the device, and never sent outside the device by the App.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
